A sixth win in a row? That is what Sarlat will be gunning for this Sunday against Barbezieux Jonzac. The Federale 2 championship game, which will start at 3 PM on Sunday afternoon at the Christian Goumondie Stadium, will be the perfect opportunity for Sarlat Rugby to confirm their dominant position in Bracket 8.
Keeping up the winning streak
After five victories in as many games, Sarlat Rugby is sitting squarely in the spotlight. Stephane Labrousse’s team is now a strong candidate to climb up to the Federale 1 division at the end of the season.
Eroni Tuwai and his teammates will be aiming to continue their current winning streak. They are returning victorious from a clash last Sunday against a fierce foe in Bergerac, who had also been undefeated before the Perigord derby. In a game that can only be considered as their best yet this season, the players in Blue and Black delivered a solid performance.
“It was a very good outcome against a direct competitor for the top two spots in the bracket. In terms of gameplay, we were solid on the basics, now we just have to prepare seriously for the next game to finish the bloc well,” said the team’s coach, Stephane Labrousse, after the game against Bergerac.
To finish this second bloc, the team representing the capital of the Perigord Noir will have to face a new opponent, less lauded perhaps, but with their own ambitions and strong recent trajectory.
Barbezieux Jonzac hopes to dethrone Sarlat
Sarlat Rugby will be up against a well-prepared Union Barbezieux Jonzac team. Despite a difficult start to the season, with two defeats out of three games, UBJ has just won two consecutive games. Their latest win was last weekend against Belvès (29-15) on the fifth day of the championship. Sanctioned heavily in the first half for several penalties, the UBJ players quickly corrected their trajectory and tapped into their strength to win the game. Heady with success, UBJ will try to bring home another win and a surprising upset against Sarlat Rugby.
As a reminder, Sarlat Rugby had won (23-10) against UBJ in their final game of the previous season. No doubt they will be going after a repeat performance this Sunday
Before the game, the reserve team of Sarlat, who is recovering from a defeat and a tie, will be playing against UBJ’s B Team, who also won against Belvès, at 1h30 PM on Sunday.
